Question:Any tips regarding the Dallas marathon? This will be my first Dallas
marathon and looking for comments from people who have run the course.
Answer:
Interested in people who have run Dallas and can give insights to the
route, recommendations, etc. This will be my sixth marathon and am looking
not necessarily for a PB but interested in maximizing the experience.
Haven't run it yet (this Dec. will be the first time), but there is a
map of the course at www.livelife.com, if that helps.
I ran it last year as my first marathon. It was a relatively warm day, about
50 or so at the start and easily into the upper 60's by the time I finished.
Wind was mild, but the section of the course around the lake can be windy
as it is very exposed. The course is mostly flat (well, Dallas is pretty
flat period...), but there are some hills around 19-22 miles as you come up
from the lake back into the city. The course from 22 to the end is flat
or downhill. The first 8 or so miles are in the city and then into some
really nice neighborhoods. The next 9 or 10 are around White Rock Lake and
the race finished through the (ugh) industrial district after a few more
miles in some more nice neighborhoods.
Weather for previous marathons has ranged from 60's at the start to 30's
with 20+ mile winds and drizzle/ice (or so I've heard).
Overall, although I swore at the end that I'd never run another marathon,
looking back on it, I really enjoyed it, and am planning on running it again
this year (assuming I survive San Antonio first).
