Question:I'm CONFUSED--is the San Francisco Marathon now defunct? I know there's a
"new" Chronicle Marathon which takes place on the same date (I think) that
the SF Marathon was scheduled for. The course is different, though, so I'm
just wondering what is going on. And if they did combine them, why didn't
they just call it the Chronicle San Francisco Marathon?
Answer:
bay to breakers is a 12-K race
a marathon, ANY marathon, is 26.2 miles long
there's just a *slight* difference between the 2
But are the Chronicle Marathon and the San Francisco Marathon the SAME
race? I guess that is my ultimate question. I have seen no reference to the
SF Marathon in the promotional literature for the Chronicle Marathon. Also,
from what I understand, the Chronicle Marathon starts in Golden Gate Park.
The SF Marathon starts on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Also, though marathons mean 26.2 mile races in the U.S., I know that in
Japan they refer to all road races as "marathons." It makes things rather
confusing, but that might be why Cynthia thought I was talking about Bay to
Breakers. I also neglected to mention that the marathon was in July.
the Chronicle marathon is replacing the race formerly known as the SF
marathon. yes, the course is different (and that's unfortunate
IMHO).
