Petite running clothes?

Question:Can anyone recommend a good source or brand of petite running clothes (for women)? I can find petite tights (with shorter inseams) but have a terrible time finding tops & jackets that are designed to fit a petite upper frame (and by petite, I don't necessarily mean "skinny"). For example, roadrunnersports.com only offers something like 3 petite jackets..... hardly much choice at all!!!

I know it shouldn't matter what I run in, but most things I "make-do" with are size S but the sleeves are so long they get in the way and are quite annoying. Plus, I'm simply tired of looking like a kid wearing her daddy's oversized jogging suit. :-)

Answer:

If you are very tiny, have you considered the kids sizes? There's quite a range of sizes up to and including things that would fit a smaller adult. Some *kids* these days ARE bigger than many adults! I have no idea whether any online sports retailer carries kids sized clothing...but for a jacket, it's worth a try.

Yes, this is an old trick of mine. For basic liesure-wear, I shop at Gap Kids, etc. I have a pair of black Levi jeans that are size 14 girls, and I own XL girls' Hanes tee shirts & sweats. My 9 year old daughter is pretty amused when I want to borrow her sweatshirt.

*Unfortunately* the colors and styles are not all that trendy, i.e., they look, well, childish (think: bright cotton candy pinks, glitter, or -horrors- cartoon characters). And more importantly, a lot of kids' clothes are built *really cheap.* IOW, if you can find me sophisticated sports fabrics in kids' sizes, I'll try it (no matter what the color). I already have a young-looking face, so childish clothing styles just make me look even more RIDICULOUS. I am 36, and it would be great if I could at least look 23. :-)

I'm quite petite, but I haven't had any trouble finding clothes. You just have to look around and try things on a lot. LLBean has XS which is pretty darn small. The thing is, it's pretty small through the chest, and I think this would be a problem with kids' clothes, too. I almost bought a kids' jacket at LLBean, but ended up just buying a boys' Nike windbreaker at Marshall's.

Yup, and if you are a small runner then they get you in the calves too. Or perhaps they only get me? I am starting to find that even women's clothes in my size are a bit small round the calves ... like I sit in a business meeting in a trouser suit and when I stand up the trousers stay rucked up on my calves! It is not gracious. Hennes and Mauritz do reasonable stuff in kiddie sizes in not too ridiculous colours but I still get the same problem in the calves - any other women runners have this difficulty in 'office wear' situations? I know I could wear a skirt but it gets cold on the train this time of year!

Recently I've seen a lot of pants that are VERY full in the leg, almost like really long kulottes (sp?). Have you tried Banana Republic, for example? I was there recently and tried on several in this style, which I love the look of, but can't carry it off myself cuz my legs are not all that long and my hips are boyish, so I end up looking ridiculous.

My 12 year old neice stayed with us last summer, and I almost put her shoes on in the dark one morning. ... I wear size 12 -- men's. The fit was OK, I just knew it was a strange shoe by the feel of it. Her older sister is over six foot and it looks like she may end up taller.

Just a generation ago, I was considered a big kid, but I feel shrimpy now compared to some of the big kids I see.
