Question:i began running approximately one year ago. i am currently training
for the 97 marathon. my average mileage is approximately 25 miles per
week. hopefully, i intend to increase this to 35-40. any suggestions on
training efficiently for the marathon?
Answer:
One thing you relly need to accomplish in your training is a weekly long slow run. The Portland
Marathon Training clinics started in March, and continue up until the marathon date. You can pick
up a Portland Marathon booklet at most any sportstore. If you are interested in the training
runs, they are held on both Sat and Sun mornings. For more info write to Portland Marathon
Training Clinic, 6917 sw 33rd, Portland, OR, 97219.
If you feel exhausted by the mere thought of running a weekly long slow
20-miler, a good alternative is to run a regular 10 miles every day at
as brisk a pace as you feel comfortable with :-)
