Question:A couple questions, when I look in RRS they say the pegasus is geared toward the person
with a small to medium frame with medium to high arches. So what do you consider a small
to medium frame? I'm 6' tall and weigh right at 175 +/- lbs. Also maybe it isn't the
shoes causing my discomfort, back when I wore the pegasus I was running a
couple miles three times a week, now I'm running between 5 and 6 miles four
times a week. There are no running shoe stores within 100 miles so local
expertise is not available. Any suggestions and/or comments?
Answer:
Why ? What sort of problems ?
It means that it's a lighter cushioning shoe. The material might not be as
durable (they may use softer low durometer material), and it might not have as
much cushioning as a heavier shoe.
your approach to shoes is flawed (this naming of brands and then painting with
a broad brush is not sound). since you've not tested out every pair of asics
running shoes....to say for you they are "very uncomfortable" is not valid (and
asics probably has the broadest catalog/models of running shoes w/varying
characterisitcs of anyone). i'm simply illustrating i don't think you have a
basis to rule out considering an asics shoe going forward.
you're basically starting from scratch in finding a shoe for you & based on
what you've said, go for a neutral stability shoe. this will likely have the
least level of risk in a starter shoe. Buy the best value available in a top
brand (excluding nike). though i believe a lw trainer, rrs has some ASICSŪ GEL
-VerdictT DS II going for $40 (before all those rrs discounts). something
more built up?...they have Mizuno Wave Alchemy '03 going for $40 in 10-12 i
think. that's another fine starting point.
you have to discern a current reference point by model, not brand...and then
people can aid/guide you from there (as opposed to flying blind). don't
expect perfection, allow the shoe some break-in period, know you might need to
devise a insert device of a heel gel or whatever to get as close to perfection
as possible.
keep an open mind, you can return anything horrible on day one to rrs, and
explore. imo lots of people miss out on a great shoe for them in mizunos and
sauconys because their fixed in the more familiar...a new pair of shoes is like
a box of chocolates...
If you liked the Peg from 15 years ago I'd try the Nike Max Moto too. It's a
little closer to the old Peg than the new Peg is.
Or you can buy a REAL running shoe like Asics, NB, Adidas, or anyother
major brand. You'll spend an average of $40 less for a superior shoe,
that'll last longer, out perform, and prevent injurys better than
Nikes. The latest research indicated Nikes not only are cheaply made,
but also actually cause injurys.
just where can one find this so called research that nike shoes cause
injuries? u are the second person i have heard this from
