Question:we know what causes most of the AIDS in SF, now don't we? How
about raising money to prevent the behaviors that spread AIDS.
Why not first worry about controlling the diseases which we currently
cannot control?
Answer:
This may come as a surprise to many of you, but I will be participating
in the Miami Half-Marathon this January! That's right, 13.1 miles!
During this six-month training program, I am running a little further
each week. I expect to log nearly 500 miles. It's all part of the
National AIDS Marathon Training Program, which raises money for the San
Francisco AIDS Foundation, one of the leading providers of AIDS
services the Bay Area.
Due to the Hurricane Katrina disaster, the SF Aids Foundation has made
a sizable donation to help over the 8,000 AIDS/HIV patients who were
displaced due to the disaster. So the money raised not only goes
towards victims in SF Bay Area but also goes to help those in need
across the country and world.
This is why I am committed to raise at least $3000 before November
18th, although I would like to raise even more. I'm asking for your
support. Any donation you can make to help me meet my goal would be
most appreciated! It's so easy to make a donation, just click on the
link below. It only takes a few moments to make a contribution that
could enhance the life of someone living with HIV/AIDS.
This is certainly the most challenging task I have ever attempted in my
life, but I am confident that with your help I can make it to the
finish line. Thank you for supporting me in this tremendous
undertaking. When I hit the road this January to complete the Miami
Half-Marathon, I'll know that you helped me and many others along the
way.
It tried to donate a jock strap for support, but there was no way to
do that in the link.
I will be entering a chicken wing eating contest to raise money for
world hunger. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. I would like
to raise $3000.
Let me see... 500mi / 26 weeks = less than 20 miles/wk. Is that one of those
Hanson-Galloway training plans?
You should run at least 25 miles per week.
And we know what causes most of the AIDS in SF, now don't we? How
about raising money to prevent the behaviors that spread AIDS.
You know what: I'd like to see a cure for AIDS also, or at least
people not to spread it around. As nasty as AIDS is, it's not at the
top of my list of priorities for curing right now. It is largely a
preventable disease (by not raping babies, engaging in male-on-male
sex, prostitution, IV drugs, etc). The fact is, we have diseases like
cancer, heart problems, and diabetes (which are not always preventable
by behavior) destroying the health of millions around the world. Why
not first worry about controlling the diseases which we currently
cannot control?
but if we cure all of the above, everyone will have to find
something else to die of, or live much longer. Living much longer
sounds like a bad idea - for all of us, given the already large and
ever-growing problems overpopulation bring, and even for those who
would now survive well into their second century.
Most of 'em anyway. Even if most of us don't make much headway against
our fear of death - or even see acceptance of eventual death as
something for which to strive - that doesn't seem to mean the mere
survival which constitutes the last years or decades for many is an
uninterrupted party either. In fact I'll observe that the more intense
a person's fear of death, the less likely that person will really much
enjoy life.
