training for mini-triathlon?

Question:which will enable me to set a somewhat faster pace, rather than always trying to run the same distance that I'll have to run in the event?

Answer:

You will have no trouble doing the triathlon.. I think you said in your note you ran 6k in 50 minutes, thats about 3.5 miles. Is that correct? It so you maybe need to work on your running, but you still will have no problem with the tri.. It just occured to me reading your note and seeing the date and distances, is that the tri in Pauling, N.Y.? I am doing that one..

I estimated the distance that I ran by looking at a map and measuring, so it's possible it was 7km (= 4.35 miles) rather than 6 km (=3.73 miles). Yes, it took me 50 minutes, which I realize is not very good. I don't know if it's possible to improve in the time left to train, but I'll try.

Funny that you're also doing an event on June 2, there must be a lot of events that day, because my sister is training for the Freihofer 5km run which is also June 2. (If I lived in Albany, I'd do that one just for the refreshments afterwards!)

Actually my mini-triathlon is in Herzliyah, Israel. It's held to commemorate an Israeli triathlete who was killed by a hit-and-run driver while she was on a training bike ride. I think the reason for the short distances (750 meter swim/20km bike/ 5 km run) is to get as many entrants as possible. There is also a shorter option, I think something like 500 meter swim/12 km bike/3km run, which a friend of mine is doing, but I decided that I should be capable of the longer option.

Sounds like the one I'm getting ready for (Blue Springs in Marianna, FL - .25m/10m/5k), only I'll have an excuse for going slow. I'll be running with my 14YO, who no matter how bad he thinks he is (he just did his first and last Ironkids and is a litte cocky right now LOL), is still slower than his old man. :)

I've heard of some unbalanced races, but that's incredible. How do you even measure someone swimming a quarter of a meter? And a 10-meter bike leg? I wouldn't bother putting on cycling shoes. In fact, to save time I'd do the quarter-meter swim and the 10-meter bike with my running shoes on! :-)
