Question:Zooms were fairly rare in features at this time. I wonder if this could have
been the first such use in a filmed TV series?
Answer:
As pointed out in a past thread, Hallmark takes the
already-edited-for-syndication version and chops another 3 minutes,
usually coming in at about 41 minutes for a one-hour show. It's a
disgrace.
If you put a few network prime time dramas on video tape and omit
commercials, you will have about 42 minutes recorded for each hour.
Those two hour "Russia: Land of the Tsars" last week on the History
channel are about 1 hour 25 minutes without commercials.
That gives about 17 or 18 minutes of commercial time in each hour.
Thar's for today's shows -- Rawhide and other 1 hour programs from that period,
including credits, are about 49-50 minutes.
Yes, that is now. However, "Rawhide" was produced in an era when 1-hour programs usually ran 51 minutes. There's
no comparison.
