Question:I have been running for two years now. Was thinking of running possibly
in a marathon. How long does it take to train for something like this?
Answer:
In general, if you regularly do 25 miles per week, give yourself about
15 weeks to train. There are lots of good programs available, I'm
sure lots of folks here will help you out.
I just started a 24 week program for the Portland, OR marathon, October
and I think that's fairly typical for someone who runs about 15 miles a
week.........
I ran the New York City marathon last november. it was my first marathon.
i started training in august, but i have been running 4-10 miles six days
a week for about 8 years. first off, running a marathon is not that
difficult. it's the training that's hard. some quick tips:
1. cross-train, especially early on in your training. this will prevent
injury. i trained perhaps too much and ever since the marathon, have had
knee and shin injuries. i had never had any problems before the marathon.
2. there are tons of training programs out there, but the one i followed
entailed about five miles four days a week, then a long (15-22) mile run
on the weekend
