Question:What cross training brand of running shoe would you recommend for running??

I am going shopping for "running" shoes with my teenage daughter - what are some "quality" ones (but stylish) ?

I try to talk her into New Balance but she always wants Nikes - she is also considering Pumas this year.

Answer:

I would recommend that you go to a specialty running store (ie: not foot locker or something like that, but an independent local shop owned and operated by runners) and find the brand which fits your foot the best. Have the sales person analyze your biomechanics and recommend the right shoe for you. A shoe that works well for one person, won't necessarily work for others. If you don't mind sharing what city you live in, you may receive some recommendations for a good local running shop, otherwise I would do a search for running clubs in your area and find out from members what specialty shop to visit. I think any of the big name brands (Nike, Asics, Saucony, New Balance) make quality shoes, it is a question as to what shoe is right for your biomechanical needs, and what shoe fits your foot well. A specialty running store should only carry quality shoes. The big name brands do make a few cheaper models, which won't hold up well for running, but you should not find these in a specialty store.

i have adidas supernovas. i've been wearing them for a year now and am on my 3rd pair. they are support shoes and i have never had a problem. I've been wearing the old version....they have a newer one now w/a lighter blue color but i don't think theres any difference in shoe design. anyhow, they run about $85. my running partner loves muzunos (sp). they are a little more expensive at about $100 or higher but are a great brand.

lastly, my hubby has asics which he really likes. i had a pair of them too but when they stopped making the version i wore i switched to the adidas. they run about $85-95. your best bet is to go to a running store (not a department store but a place that specializes in running gear) and have her try on a handful of different stuff. make sure she runs around in them too bec. they don't feel the same when you're just walking.

i hear New Balance sneaks are least likely to be made by 7 year olds in Indonesia working 7 days a week for 10 cents an hour.
