Question:I am about to begin a 28 - week training program to build up for a Oct.
Marathon ( Marine Corps). I am planning to use the plan set forth in
Galloways Book on Running. I have tried to find his other book that is
more geared towards marathons (Marathon!), but I haven't been able to find
it anywhere and I heard it was no longer in print ( if anyone could help
me with this I would appreciate it!?!). Anyway I heard that in his older
book some people have suggested that some of the workouts are should be
adjusted. ( 12x1 @ 6:25 2w before the marathon, also doing a 27-29 mile
run ). I have been looking at the sub 3:00 program. If anyone has any
suggestions on some alterations that might be good please let me know.
Answer:
I've run the Marine Corps Marathon twice and found it really enjoyable
with the crowd support, good organization and site seeing along the
course. Good luck.
I've applied Jeff "Galloway's Book on Running" (GBOR) to 10 marathons
including Boston '96. This book is all you need.
I met with Jeff last Feb '96 in Ottawa and thanked him for the advice
(which got me to Boston) in his book which I applied with intensity
adjustments. His book (GBOR) is very thorough as a generic planning
guide to running a marathon. He indicated that he wouldn't change
anything in the book (circa 1984)(although of course his advice in
later books augment GBOR).
He's also written "Return of the Tribes" (circa 1995) which I've read.
It's in story form interspersed with running advice and numerous plugs
on Powerbars. For running advice, his first book is much better.
Regarding "Marathon"(circa 1996) it sounds much like "Return of the
Tribes".
