Question:
I was thinking about the Sutton Fun Run in June and when I got a leaflet on
it from Sutton town centre I was surprised to find its 8.5 miles. A lot of
it quite inclined - I know this has been run for years and a neighbour says
it used to be longer. They say in the blurb it isn't a race and you can do
it how you want but 8.5 miles seems a serious distance - I doubt I could do
it with my lack of training as I only run for just over the hour for 10K ,
that's when I can train!!.
I thought "Fun Run" was a few miles 6 max or something - respect to those
that do it in bear costumes!!
Answer:I still remember the London Marathon in 1997. Ran 3:45, and got
overtaken by a gorilla at about 23 miles
I suppose it would be a tad off putting to be overtaken by a gorilla at any
time!
Well, Sofa-Spud, you've done 10k haven't you? What's so bad about another
2.3 miles? You've got over two months to train for it, it's easily doable.
I have just come back from a run tonight - I was going to the gym but the
wife had car problems and there wasn't time . I really feel I've turned the
corner with this dodgy ankle - with Totton 10K on Sunday , The Lung Run 10K
at the end of April I'll be more than ready . I must make sure I don't over
do it with too much enthusiasm .
Have a look at http://www.mattmahoney.net/barkley/ for some details of
the Barkley Marathons. There is a 100 mile event and a 60 mile "Fun
Run". The winning times for the Fun Run are over thirty hours - it's
obviously a tough course...
That's in the USA, though. Perhaps the rules about fun runs are
different over there. :-)
