training programs Tri web training program wanted

Question: Does anyone know of any good websites that sell training programs for triathlons, races, sprints, etc?

I live in Toronto and tried a few short course tri's over the summer. I was a 3:30 marathoner and due to an ankle injury am switching my winter training over to tri. Anybody know a good web site with some reasonable programs?

I apologize because I know this has been discussed before but I'd like to know where I can get some good info on Ironman training programs. I'm planning on doing FL Ironman in November. I've done tri's since 1986 but I've only done one 1/2(in 1997) but now I'm ready to take the plunge. Either free programs or those that aren't too expensive.

Answer:you can find free programs at www.trinewbies.com, and paid programs at www.markallenonline.com, www.trainingbible.com, & www.mikepigg.com (?). you can also check out some beginner training articles at www.martygaal.com/words.html and a lot of other sites, just put "triathlon training" + variations of that into google.com

I few that come to mind are TriNewbies.com (http://www.trinewbies.com/1TPbegSp.htm), Asimba.com (http://www.asimba.com/lifestyle/training/programs/tri.html) and active.com (http://www.active.com/activetrainer/trainer_main_public.cfm??category= activetrainer)

Being a 3:30 marathoner, you probably already know that these guides should be followed with common sense. Just remember to "keep it real." If you don't feel like working out (really tired, injury, no love, etc), then back off a bit, or take a day off. If you do a workout half-assed, you are more liekly to injure yourself or get really bitter towards triathlon training.

Take a look at Friel's "Triathlete's training bible".

Besides clearly guiding you through the step-by-step construction of a training program for any triathlon from scratch, it also has a discussion for the IM plan for a 36 yr old. With some tweaking, you can easily "translate" that plan to your training season. That's what I did for my first IM, Lake Placid 2000, and it worked great.

IM puts more emphasis on both nutritional scheduling during the race and recovery techniques in training than an Olympic distance. As your total training volume increases for IM, more attention should be devoted to recovery (stretching, yoga, self-massage, light rides as active recovery).
