Question:
1.I am currently a runner and cyclist. I have a history of swimming in my
past. I am beginning the process of investigating an simultaneous
training program to compete in triathlons and wondered if anyone had a
reccomendation for a written training guide?
2. would like to know if you could recommend any books about
triathlon...training, equipment and so on ?
Answer:1.Look in magazines like Triathlete and Inside Triathlon for books. IT
currently has a Velo catalog with a lot of books in it. Some of the
better books are: Swim, Bike, Run by Glen Town (in Velo), and Triathlon
edited by Rod Cedaro (not in Velo, says on the cover that Tri-Fed endorses
this one. Also Tinley's Winning Guide to Sports Endurance is very good.
It won't help a whole lot in the way of specific schedules but the info in
it is good to know.
I found most of these books at my local bookstore, but it probably will be
necessary to mail order them.
1.A couple of the triathlon books that I've found usefully are Scott
Tinley's new one, and "Serious training for serious athletes" by Rob
Sleamaker. Tinley's is a great introduction to triathlons, and giving
training and diet tips. The book by Sleamaker is aimed at a slightly more
advanced audience, and discusses the nuts and bolts of designing a
personal training program. His book not only looks at triathlons, but
other enduranace sports such as cycling, running, and cross-country
skiing.
2.The complete guide to endurance training by Jon Ackland is a terrific
book ;Also The triathletes training bible by Joe Friel
Training Plans for multisport athletes by Gale Bernhardt
And if you're into Ironman..
Going Long by Gordo Byrn here's his website with a cracking
triathlon forum... http://www.coachgordo.com/cgi-bin/config.pl
