Question:
I've posted a few times, but mostly lurk and receive some great
advice!
So, here's my question: I have 7 1/2 mo B/G twins that will soon be
transferring out of their carseat carriers to the next level. After
going through this with my almost 3yo, I want to get one carseat that
will last as long as the twins need to be in them--hopefully saving
money by doing so.
The two carseats that have the best reviews are the Cosco Alpha Omega
and the Britax Marathon. A large difference is the price. I'm
willing to spend the money for the Britax, but I'd prefer not to if I
don't have to. (Sorry if this is very wordy, but I have my older one
behind me somewhat distracting my thinking :) )
Anyway, any of you that have them, please tell me if you like them or
if you'd change your mind.
Answer:We have both--the Marathon for our car and the
Alpha Omega for my mother's car (because I didn't want
to pay for another Marathon ;-) Both are acceptable,
but I think the Marathon is nicer. The buckle assembly
is easier to work. I think the velcro that holds the
straps open is handy. The straps don't get twisted
as easily. The LATCH attachments are much easier to
work. It seemed slightly easier to install. On the
other hand, the Alpha Omega is a little easier to
adjust for height. Overall, I prefer the Marathon,
but I don't think it would be a terrible thing to
have the Alpha Omega, and it would certainly be
cheaper X 2.
I have the Britax Roundabouts and looove them. I have heard wonderful things
about the Marathon. I would encourage you to at least check out the Britax
Wizard...newer version with added safety features over the Marathon.
I can't/wouldn't knock the Alpha Omega. I simply went on a combination of
research reports that I located, word of mouth, and gut. For me, Britax is a
brand name that jumped forward and gave me a peace ;) That's not to say the
other car seat brands are inferior. But, this is why I chose what I did.
I have the Alpha Omega and have used it since my now 4.5 year old was
about 1. Its been totally fine, I have no complaints about it at all.
We just washed the covering the other day and cleaned it out and it
holds up really well to years of kid grime. I have no experience with
the Britax, but the Omega has worked fine for us.
