Question:
Haven't seen many reviews of this shoe online, so I'm posting my $0.02.
I picked up this shoe from footlocker.com, because I wanted a lightweight
trainer. One easy way to narrow the field was to look for something I could
pick up at a good price. Options included Mizuno Mavericks, Asics DS Trainers,
NB 83x, Nike Spiridons, and Asics Verdict DS.
Maverick and the trainers were out of the picture, both are stability shoes,
and I wanted as flexible as possible. The NB 83x just didn't fit me even when
I went half a size up. The toe box felt too narrow, and the heel was
comparitively wide. I'm not a big fan of Nike, so I went with the Verdict DS.
This shoe has an unusual design -- there is no tongue, the upper has a
"glove like" structure. RRS claim that it runs small and recommend half a size
up compared to other running shoes (that is, a full size up compared to dress
shoes). So I did this and got a 10.5.
The fit - I don't regret getting a slightly larger size. The upper makes it
a little tricky to put the shoe on, but also makes for a snug fit. The toebox
feels generous with the slightly larger size, but my foot is constrained
enough not to rub on the inside (a recipe for blisters). The shoe is slightly
longer than my other (size 10) shoes. So to some it up, I agree with the RRS
view that they run a little small.
The feel: very flexible. The feel of this shoe makes it a logical companion to
the Gel Tiger Paw (an Asics racing flat). My plan is to use the Verdict as a
speed trainer, and then put the Tiger Paws on for racing.

I'm a Nike runner who just finished off a pair of Verticts.

I have to say I really liked the upper design. I was afraid that the
straps (for lack of a better term) that held the laces tight would cut
into my foot. But they actually made the shoe fit very comfortably,
never a problem.

The shoe had a solid feel to it. It was nicely responsive and quicker
(probably lighter) than the Asics 1030's that I didn't like all that
much. I did some 8-10 milers in them and they seemed to be ok. I got
maybe 500 miles out of them running my weekday 5 or 6 milers in them.
On occasion I'd wear them for longer runs but not that often. I just
got a pair of Nike Zoom Elites and after one run in them took my
Verdicts (mostly worn out) out of circulation. I just prefer the cushy
feel of Nike over the solid feel of Asics.
