Question:
Please tell me about the Anchorage course. What is available at the aid
stations? How often are there stations?
The diagram I saw shows a slow climb for the 1st half and slow drop for the
2nd half. Is that about right?
Answer:I assume you are asking about the Mayor's Marathon in June. There are
aid stations every two miles with water and Gatorade. The first half of
the course is indeed somewhat hilly. There is a gain in elevation of a
few hundred feet. The second half is a gradual decline to sea level
until mile 25.5 where there is a rather tough hill leading to the
finish. It is an interesting and scenic course. Probably about 10 miles
is on a paved bike trail and 6 miles on roads. The other 10 is on a
gravel/dirt road which runs through the backside of an Army post. It is
rather primitive but provides for a unique marathon experience through
the woods of Alaska. All in all, a great run!
