Question:
Just wanted to get some advice on some race goals for this year. I
am planning on doing my first 1/2IM at the beginning of september this
year, and would like to also do a marathon at the end of September.
The marathon will be my 4th one, so I am prepared for the mileage
there. Just wanted to know how long after the 1/2IM I'll need to rest
before keeping up with the marathon mileage. Any suggestions on how to
fit the 2 training programs together? I realize its hard to assess
someone else's ability, but has anyone had similar schedules, and what
has worked for you?
Answer:A lot of it probably depends on how well trained you are going into
the 1/2 IM and how well you recover. You'll certainly need at least 1
week of little activity (certainly very little running) after the 1/2
unless you have an unbelievable recovery. You won't be able to do
much if any intensity between events for sure. I pushed too hard
after Vineman last year (ran the next 2 days like an idiot) and
sustained a hip injury I lived with the rest of the season. 2 months
of no running it took to heal so listen to your bod.
